Overview
The RealLIFE Discipleship Training School (LDTS) is a training opportunity to experience YWAM Tyler’s Classic DTS, but with an added emphasis on life issues that are prevalent in this generation. The teaching focuses on the intrinsic value of all human life, God’s purposes for relationships, and the God-ordained institution of the family. Woven into the purposes and outcomes of a DTS are topics on unplanned pregnancy, fatherlessness, adoption, children at risk, human trafficking, the elderly/hospice care, and how to honor God's character in the midst of such brokenness.
As with the Classic DTS, you will go to deeper levels of commitment through studying God's word, discovering more about His character, and finding His purposes for the future. Your passion will be refined and directed to fulfill God's intentions for your life.
This five-month program is broken into a three-month lecture phase and an eight-week outreach phase. The classroom time aims to:
- Strengthen the spiritual foundation in your life
- Teach you about what God is like and to know Him
- Teach you to hear His voice (yes, He speaks!), to pray, and to obey Him
- Encourage you to become more like Jesus
- Encourage you to care for others who do not know Him
- Train you in evangelism (how to share your testimony and faith with others)
- Expand your view of your life to include how you can help influence different areas of society
- Further equip you to minister to women and families
The outreach phase allows you to apply the principles you learned in during class. This is eight weeks of life-changing opportunity! It includes sharing the love of God through friendship evangelism, drama, music, teaching, and just about any other way you can think of.
The Location
The RealLife DTS will be hosted on the Living Alternatives property on the grounds of Fatherheart Maternity Home in Garden Valley, Texas. A ministry of YWAM Tyler, Living Alternatives was established in 1982 to meet the needs of girls experiencing unplanned pregnancy. Living Alternatives seeks to give girls a hope and a future. Fatherheart Maternity Home is a safe haven where young mothers can decide what is the best for themselves and for their babies. The Living Alternatives campus is the ideal setting for the LDTS, giving the student exposure and hands-on experience working with "RealLife" issues.
The Details
On any given day during your school you can expect:
intense teachings designed to show God's character and desires, taught by powerful Christian leaders and experienced missionaries.
The three-month intense teaching phase curriculum includes:
- Nature and character of God
- Hearing God's voice
- Fatherheart of God
- God's purposes for your life
- Biblical worldview
- Value of human life
- Prayer and intercession
- Biblical view of abortion
small groups meet once a week to build deeper relationship with staff and students in a smaller setting. Small groups are also designed to create an opportunity for students to ask questions regarding the teaching, to share what God is doing in his/her life, and to receive prayer and support from the group.
intercession groups pray that God's work will be multiplied throughout the nations. Intercession is prayer where we put ourselves in the place of identification with existing needs, seeking the Lord's direction on how to pray, and seeking His intervention in that particular situation. During these times we mainly focus on nations of the world, and on needs other than our own.
daily quiet times allow you to pursue your personal relationship with God and to learn how to hear His voice. This time is set aside each day as a part of your schedule.
required reading is set up to complement the classroom curriculum.
work duties are daily two-hour shifts that teach the practical side of missions, serving one another, the value of teamwork, and responsibility (e.g. meal prep, cleaning, and office work). Work duties also significantly keep down the cost of the school. Some adjustments are made for families. There are also work duties on the weekends.

After DTS
The DTS is only half of the missions training originally designed by YWAM, so the five-month School of Evangelism (SOE) is a must. The SOE focuses on the message and the methods of evangelism, equipping you with powerful tools to minister to the needs of the world. |
