A Missionary's Thoughts on the Killing of George Tiller PDF Print E-mail
Written by Kurt Hurst

When I heard the news Sunday that infamous abortion doctor George Tiller was shot, I was shocked. It is so tragic when a person's life is taken from them. As someone with a pro-life perspective, I hold all life as sacred. It is a tragedy that Dr. Tiller has been murdered. My deepest condolences and prayers are with his wife and children.

I may not have agreed with Dr. Tiller's actions, but what was done to him was evil and should be condemned. I know there are those that will take this opportunity to push the politics of their particular stance on the issue of abortion and say either, "Tiller got what he had coming to him," or "See what those fanatical pro-lifers have done," but now is not the time for agenda-pushing.

Now is the time to grieve for the loss of life. Now is the time to mourn for a wife who lost her husband and for four children who lost their father. Now is a time to mourn with God for one of His children who passed into eternity without realizing the horror of his actions on earth.

I hope speedy justice is served to Scott Roeder, the man who is allegedly responsible for this tragedy. What he has done is irresponsible and evil, and in no way benefits the position he says he supports. Murder is wrong. Period. And vengeance belongs to the Lord. All manner of evil has been done in the name of righteousness when men forget these two things.

I know God's heart is grieved over these events, and I share His sentiment. I pray that those affected by this tragedy will find peace in comfort in Jesus Christ.
